• the Enlivening the Landscape

I stake my belief fully in a landscape alive, conscious, and present. One could term this animism, if a word is needed. As I look around me, in this familiar and unfamiliar place, I let myself immersive my self into the landscape. Feeling the movement of the breeze, the glare of the sun beaming down hot and heavy, the gentle rain that brings more humidity, the big wild, tall trees littering the topography of a land recently ravaged by a ferocious hurricane. Some trees are bent, many are uprooted, others stand firm and solid, their vein-y roots sticking out unruly and staunch. I look at the world around me, the people, the streets, the ocean, and I let my self be overcome. I feel quite at home here, I feel it was perfect and auspicious coming back, but also, simultaneously, I feel a resistance. As if I am seeing the lay of the land for the first time, and appreciating it for all it has to offer, knowing it for the first time, and there are markers of knowing I have to encounter first before fully immersing myself within and with the spirits of this place.

I admit that another barrier might be the fact that I am not yet in my own home, I am in a temporary house. That perhaps contributes to the barred response I am getting.

Meanwhile, I read and contemplate, I take in the sun, and plunge myself into the minutiae of daily mundane life.

One benefit of this has been a re-acquaintance with different tarot traditions and other card systems of divination, after a two month hiatus. For example, LXXXI The Magician’s Deck by Quareia. I wrote a review of the deck many months ago, here. Rereading the book as I look deeper at the cards, I gain a new appreciation of the unique system of the deck, as I also learn to use it with a more practical approach in mind. Two processes of re-immersion, within the deck as within the landscape around me.

Another way of looking at it is, I am already here, I am within the landscape as I am here. All I have to do is be present and experience the being here with the land.

With these thoughts in mind I shuffle the cards and think, what does it mean to be within the landscape and experience it? It is foremost about relationships and experiencing relationships, of being aware and present, in medias res, in the moment. From these relationships and these experiences one begins to establish a rapport, to know the land, to begin grasp the personality of the spirits of the place.

From East to West, it is about finding the guises in the shadows, about guiding the impulse and the emotions with the finesse gained through working together, instruction and counsel. From North the South, one learns to ease the bloody passions through guidance, to temper desires, and subsequently one learns Temperance. In a landscape of shadow and disguises, an ally and guide is is favorable. Immersion is about steady guidance, discernment, and awareness.

    What comes after?

The wisdom of knowing, finding, and learning. Tapping into ancient lines, and finding the knowledge sought, of apprehending that with limitations comes refinement, stability and maturity. Knowing what to kill and what to keep, the sophistication of the Inner Temple.

I know I have said this before, but I say it again, compelled by no one but my self, this deck is an amazing tool for any diviner, witch, sorcerer, or magician (person). With its polished and coherent system, beautiful and evocative art, one can glean a universe of realities, truths, directions, and counsel from the deck. A truly en-spirited work. Perhaps as I dive into the deck, and apprehend its depth of knowledge, I will likewise discover and become aware of this landscape as it is and as I am within it.

  • Augury- squaring the week

    by

I am back after a much needed hiatus, and many things have changed. Firstly, I moved back home, closer to family, and roots. Meanwhile, living in a space that isn’t entirely mine while we look for a permanent home. Many, many things have changed indeed. I want to make my way back into writing, sharing, divining. As I slowly get back into the rhythm of this new life, I return to the weekly auguries.

Inspired by ongoing ruminations about direction-ality and place, as well as a friend, this week’s augury will be a square, the four corners. With this in mind, consider how having things squared away, knowing the angles, prepares one for what is ahead.

This week, February 5-11, exposes conflict and its resolution. What fluttering birds of discord whisper nonsense in our ear, and what do we do with all the chatter? Two pages square off, one bringing hope and comfort, good news brimming in his cup which fills our hearts, our center. While the other page threatens us with his sharp blade, daring, cajoling, and taunting. This page seeks to disrupt order and sow petty aggravations. As we feel cornered and contained, how do we move forward, how do we break free from our corral?

The message is to give ear to what fills our heart. As the week presents itself sharp and double-edged, keep the waters clear and the channels open. Communication and attention is called for. When petty conflicts arise, be the bridge that resolves it. Also, give ear to what uplifts and nourishes your center, as much of what is prattled on about serves little purpose. Fill your cup with clear waters and things will run smoother.

As the two pages present a tempting dichotomy, be the one that holds the cup and pours his good tidings onto the fertile ground of the coins. Move away from heeding the brash page with the swords as he only seeks to divide and confuse. Remember that an open disposition goes far.

Despite the minor pains this week has in store, the general gist is keeping the balance, keeping a level head, and following what nourishes and uplifts.

May this week be filled with happy surprises and opportunities.

    La Maga Tarot

  • Hiatus

Hello readers, it has been qui this month as I have been sick. Seeing this as a sign, I will be taking some time off from this site. Meanwhile, you can find other things on this site for perusal:

-Ideas about divining, enchantments, and musings in general. Here.

Have a beautiful and warm holiday. Blessings.

  • Vapours of the mind

    by

The Medieval Scapini Tarot published by US Games Systems, 2005.

The realm of dreams and mists unleash their airy fumes, our minds uncorked and pouring outward the waters of destruction. These waters blow in a torrential downpour of cosmic strength, tearing down towers of might and safety. What was bound is now unbound in a swell of vapours and crystallized blades. While you look upon this paradox, of binding and setting free, register what has transpired, keep it close to your bosom, and let it guide your wisdom, let it enliven your insight and perception. What is torn down is not needed anymore, as it served only to restrain our efforts. Not all structures are beneficial, and often what goes up must be torn down.

As October ends in a flurry of candy, costumes, and parties for some, for others this transition will be a numinous and inspiring time. Perhaps even too foggy for some. Embrace this week with a dose of sagacity guiding your discernment, and another portion of awareness guiding your steps, as a new month begins and we descend further into the darker days of the year.
